What are Error Codes?

Author: Falcon Hosting

To create a custom error page for your account, please login to cPanel and click Error Pages, under Advanced. Select the domain or subdomain you want and click the page you want to edit. Insert your own custom page code (in HTML or SHTML). The changes will be applied after you click Save.

But I don't know any HTML

Never fear. If you use a design program like Sitebuilder, simply publish a page which you would want to use. Next, visit your website online and pull up that new page you want. At the top of your browser, go to View and choose "Source" or "Page Source". Copy everything from the pop-up window (right click, Select All, right click, Copy) and now you can paste where the HTML code belongs.

Afterward, you may want to remove that extra page from your site builder program.

Common problems ErrorDocument 403 /403.shtml ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml ErrorDocument 500 /500.shtml

You can even use existing pages as the resulting page. Say you don't want any visitors seeing 404 errors on your site. You can make your home page the result, like so:

ErrorDocument 404 /index.html
If Internet Explorer is not displaying the custom error page, it is likely because the error page must be larger than 1 kilobyte.

There are many error pages which may be defined.

Client Request Errors

400 - Bad Request
401 - Authorization Required
403 - Forbidden
404 - Not Found
405 - Method Not Allowed
406 - Not Acceptable (encoding)

410 - Gone
411 - Content Length Required
412 - Precondition Failed
413 - Request Entity Too Long
414 - Request URI Too Long

Server Errors

500 - Internal Server Error
501 - Not Implemented
502 - Bad Gateway
503 - Service Unavailable
504 - Gateway Timeout
505 - HTTP Version Not Supported

How can I revert back to the default error pages?
Simply delete the error page from the public_html folder:

404.shtml
403.shtml
500.shtml

      Try doing this:

      1) Open outlook
      2) Go to Tools/Email Accounts
      3) Select the Account with the trouble and click Change
      4) Click on More Settings
      5) Click on Outgoing Server Tab
      6) Click “Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) requires authentication” and make sure “Use same settings as incoming mail server” is selected

      Cause
The 503 Service Unavailable error is an HTTP status code that means the web site’s server is simply not available at the moment. This is usually due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server.
      Resolution
The 503 Service Unavailable error is a “server-side” error, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection but instead is a problem with the web site’s server

The website is down temporarily. That’s a 503 error. They might be doing maintenance or have a server problem. Try again later.
It’s not a problem with your computer or connection, it’s them.

Why is my blog/website coming up with a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error msg?
I have started a blog a few days ago http://www.kayemagazine.com and am hosting through freehostia.com and using filezilla as my FTP. Everything was running fine, I finished a post, logged off, went out, came back home and went to my site and this 503 error came up
    “Service Temporarily Unavailable -
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Apache/1.3.33 Server at kayemagazine.com Port 80″

I tried my FTP and that is saying “530 Login incorrect” allthough I logged in through my hosting site with the same details and it works fine and as for the capacity of the website I am way under my site upload limit. Any suggestions on how I can fix this and why this would be happening?
Diospectre, thanks for your reply! Got an email back from my host and they are “sorry for the inconvenience because their servers are in maintenance”. You hit it right on the nail! Thank you – When this clears I’ll vote you best answer, You were the only answer at this point but still! lol

      Hello.

      Read this http://www.vektanova.com/2009/07/web-error-code.html
i bet it will help you.

On that articles, explaining some plentry of webswerver error codes.

      503 means:
The server is currently unavailable (because it is overloaded or down for maintenance). Generally, this is a temporary state.

You don’t need to worry because your webserver is doing maintenance, and it will be back in few hours generally.

      Might help you. :)

    Error 503 Service Unavailable. Why?
I’m from Sathyamangalam (Erode District). I got an error “Error 503 Service Unavailable from 192.168.5.5″ while opening the website “www.rrbchennai.net” but other websites are opening properly. At the same time, this site is opening in other cities. Please help me to solve this problem.

To fix this problem, click on tools at the top right of your window – in Windows Vista “tools” has an icon next next to it that looks like a gear.

A menu will open up when you click on tools, the selection will be line by line – with the very bottom one being “internet options” .. .. .. click on that.

When your internet options open up click on the privacy tab and then on the “sites” option. There will be a blank space for you to type in the name of a web site. Type in yieldmanager.com and click on the choice that allows you to block yield manager and then follow up by click on ok.

Yieldmanager is a tracking cookie which can potentially pose a security threat.

You are trying to send email from a server that doesn’t allow sending email to outside addresses, or your email password is wrong, or your ISP is messed up.

Question about Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable?
I’ve been getting “Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable” on a website for several days now; http://forumpromotion.net I’ve attempted to access the forum using a computer at work and I gain access, but whenever I use my laptop at home, I get “Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable”. The only way I can successfully access thee site from home is by using a proxy. Is it possible the owner has banned my IP and using the error message as the banned message? Or what exactly could be the problem?

The forum works fine on my end. Well, it is possible that your account was banned, but normally you would see a “You were banned” message and a reason why you have been banned. The second alternative is that the administrator/mod of the forum has banned your whole IP address to ensure that you cannot access the forum anymore, which would be the reason why you get the 503 error.
